FAQs

What is Relational Life Therapy (RLT)?

Relational Life Therapy (RLT), developed by Terry Real, is an action-oriented approach that helps people recognize the patterns keeping them stuck and practice healthier ways of relating. We don’t stop at insight. We work on creating lasting change in the moments that matter most.

Who is coaching appropriate for?

I work with psychologically stable individuals and couples who want to improve their relationships with themselves and others.

If you're experiencing an active mental health condition that requires treatment, such as untreated major depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, severe personality disorders, or an active addiction, coaching is not the right level of care. In those situations, I encourage working with a licensed mental health professional first. If you're unsure, I'm happy to discuss whether coaching is the right fit during our introductory call.

What if I decide this isn’t right for me?

You’re never locked in.

While I usually recommend working together for at least 12 sessions because meaningful change takes time, you’re free to stop at any point. We’ll talk openly about what’s working and make those decisions together.

How will I know it’s working?

You recover more quickly after conflict. You trust your own judgment. You stop replaying conversations. You say what you mean. Your relationships feel calmer. And one day, you realize you’re responding differently without even thinking about it.

How is coaching different from psychotherapy?

Many of my clients have spent years in psychotherapy before coming to me. They often tell me they understand themselves well, but still find themselves repeating the same patterns.

Understanding yourself is important, but insight alone doesn't always lead to lasting change. My coaching integrates Relational Life Therapy (RLT), an approach that explores the lasting impact of childhood and relational trauma while focusing on creating meaningful change in the present.

Our sessions are active and collaborative. I'll often pause the conversation, coach you in real time, help you notice old patterns as they happen, and practice different ways of responding so those changes become part of your everyday life.

Coaching is designed to help create meaningful change in your life and relationships. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy.
